Great turnout for our first gig at Yoshi’s SF

The only thing I was worried about while preparing for our Yoshi’ gig was that we would not get enough people. You all thrilled us to the max to see all 175 of you there dancing to every song!

Not only was this our first gig at a major nightclub in San Francisco, it was wonderful that the club promoted marriage equality by donating last nights proceeds to this cause. Your presence last night helped add Calif to the states that will legalize gay marriage.

Yoshi’s has always had first class entertainment and many excellent jazz musicians have graced that same stage that we had the privilege to perform on. There have been sold out shows on many occasions. The Yoshi’s staff made a point of telling me that YOU were a wonderful group of people and it was a fun show. I hear that a lot at different venues we play. You’re the best, and we’ll keep rockin’ it for you as long as you keep coming.

Me – Shocked!

I was “shocked” to hear about folk singer Michelle Shocked spewing her anti gay rant here in San Francisco at Yoshi’s. Being the class act club they are, M.S. was immediately shut down. Through my friend Linda Binda, my band will be performing at Yoshi’s on Father’s day June 16 to thank them for supporting the gay community. We expect this to sell out as most everyone in the Bay Area believes they did the right thing and will be there to show their support. Please save the date for a fun filled night of music at one of the best nightclubs in San Francisco.

America’s Cup & Louie Vitton Races

The San Francisco waterfront is gearing up for, the maybe once in a life time, biggest sailboat race in the world! Never before has the America’s Cup Race been held inside a bay where all can be spectators without hiring a boat to take them out into the ocean.

Because of my band’s nautical theme ( or is it naughty) we plan on playing for parties and events around the festivities. Some of the songs I’ve written are influenced by my life long love of the ocean and our beautiful Bay…No Fear, More Than A Dream, Desolation Cove, Coast Highway and other well know sailing songs like, Southern Cross, Sailing, etc.

I hope everybody gets a chance to watch these high speed boats propelled only by the wind, as they shred the waters of the bay.

Yelapa gigs

I just returned from playing two gigs in Yelapa, Mexico. Jenny Reed, (harmonica, guitar, vocals) lives there on and off. She booked me, Steve Valverde (bass) and herself at a club across the river. We had to cross the river with our instruments and gear over our heads to get to the club!
Once there, we played two fun sets of music, some tunes even in Spanish. A local percussionist played with us, Banana John.
The stage is on the second floor on the building and there is no wall behind us. So we could easily fall out the back of the stage. Jenny’s guitar did go over with a loud sound. I can’t believe it but there was only a small dent from the two story fall!
Getting back across the river after a few tequilas, in the dark was a bit scary!
The next club we played was on the beach during the full moon. The only drummer in town played with us, Rasta Ron. He has a drum set on both sides of the river as the water sometimes gets chest high.
People danced in the sand, tiki torches all around, dogs and chickens running wild! One dog was chasing and barking at the disco lights!
Huge bon fire on the beach after as a guitar was passed around filling the air with music and smoke until after 2:00 am.
Then I jumped into the 80 degree ocean for a full moon swim!
